When a city is reaching out to media to tell its energy story, it’s a good idea to be prepared and informed on the process. Trade articles, local newspaper stories, and local blog coverage are great tools to drive greater awareness of your initiatives and can be used strategically to target specific community members and interests in the city at-large. This guide details the elements of a good energy story and provides tips on getting in contact with the media.

This resource is part of the City Energy Project Resource Library. Launched in 2019, the library is the culmination of 6+ years of work on the ground in 20 U.S. cities to reduce energy use in large buildings. The City Energy Project is a joint project of IMT and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). For more information, visit www.cityenergyproject.org.
