IMT’s executive director Cliff Majersik chaired the Market Transformation section of the Vision 2020 initiative, a yearlong collaboration of thought leaders to advance sustainability by 2020. Vision 2020 was convened by EcoHome, a national green-building magazine.

Majerik’s feature article, A Virtuous Cycle, appears in the November/December 2012 issue of EcoHome. Other contributors to the special issue and to Vision 2020 include Ed Mazria of Architecture 2030, Bob Berkebile of BNIM, Nadav Malin of BuildingGreen, and Sam Rashkin of the U.S. Department of Energy.

In his article, Majersik describes IMT’s ambitious goals for boosting compliance with energy codes and moving the market toward proper valuation of green and efficient buildings. He also touches on energy benchmarking, mortgage underwriting, and other strategies that we’ll need to achieve significant market transformation.

“To truly transform the market and make high energy efficiency a baseline,” he writes, “we’ll have to drive change in the ways buildings are designed, constructed, inspected, retrofitted, valued, bought and sold, and insured.”

A digital edition of the issue can also be viewed online.
