Who We Are
Founded in 1996 and based in Washington, D.C., the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes energy efficiency in buildings. We advocate for strong building energy codes. Our policy experts work with state and local governments as they adopt and implement new building energy policies. Our finance experts develop strategies to increase the recognition of energy performance in property valuation and mortgage underwriting.
In contrast with some traditional energy efficiency programs, which have focused on piecemeal technologies, market transformation offers a strategic approach to move entire market sectors toward energy efficiency. The goal of market transformation is to change standard business practices.
