Chief Financial & Administrative Officer

The Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) has been growing steadily and is looking for an experienced, process-minded leader to oversee the day-to-day operations and strategic growth of the organization. This position requires an individual who can help others at IMT deliver measurable, cost-effective results. S/he will need to be flexible and comfortable with multitasking. A strong interest in the environment, energy policy, and/or green buildings; a Bachelor's or Master's degree; and 5+ years' experience in a relevant role are preferred.

Responsibilities

The Chief Financial and Administrative Officer will lead all internal operations, including:

  • Work closely with the Director of Strategy and Operations to create and maintain processes enabling IMT to achieve its strategic plan and goals
  • Coordinate the annual operations plan and budget
  • Coordinate IMT's office needs (including the acquisition of new space, lease agreements, and office maintenance)
  • Upgrade human resources functions including training, benefits, employee relations, performance evaluation and recruiting
  • Oversee IMT's accounting processes including tracking of receipt and expenditure of foundation grants, tax preparation, and annual audit
  • Coordinate implementation of needed technology infrastructure
  • Assist Executive Director, U.S. Director of the Global Buildings Performance Network, and the Director of Strategy and Operations in fundraising, including generation of reports, proposal and program budgets, and proposal preparation
  • Present financial reports to the Board of Directors

Program Manager, Finance Program

IMT is looking for a Program Manager for our Building Energy Efficiency Finance Policy Program. The program focuses on financing policy and developing mechanisms to promote energy efficiency for both residential and commercial buildings. This new position requires a demonstrated working knowledge of the commercial real estate industry and its' financial structures.  The successful candidate will be someone who has the intellectual curiosity to stay abreast of leading edge industry trends and the creativity to consider new financial techniques. S/he will need to be flexible and comfortable with multitasking. Exceptional analytical, writing and computer skills are required. Also required: a strong interest in the environment, energy policy and/or green buildings; a Bachelor's degree (or higher), preferably in finance, economics, business or related field; and 4 years' experience.

Primary Duties

  • Develop analytical models and statistical analyses to test and illustrate the potential impact of policy recommendations and financing mehanisms
  • Are of focus will include mortgage and commercial underwriting and appraisal, commercial leasing, commercial insurance, and the economic incentives that guide decision-making by lenders, real estate agents, appraisers, operators, and investors
  • Coordinate outreach with partner organizations, policymakers, and industry professionals
  • Contribute to industry efforts on data gathering and dissemination, particularly in a transaction usable format
  • Write papers, analyses, presentations and policy recommendations

Required Education, experience and skills

  • Undergraduate of graduate degree in finance, business, economics, accounting, law or fields relevant to buildings or real estate. Masters or MBA a plus
  • Four years of work experience in a commercial real estate or related environment
  • Demonstrated competence with the principles of finance, mortgage and commercial underwriting
  • Working knowledge of appraisal standards, commercial leasing, green leases and commercial insurance
  • Familiarity with the terms and principles of building energy use and conservation
  • Experience with public policy analysis, coalition building, and program management
  • Ability to work with a diverse team of policymakers and industry professionals
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, statistical modeling programs and data base management

Communications Associate

IMT is seeking a Communications Associate who will assist the Communications Manager and all of IMT's program staff with print and online publishing, media outreach, and social media engagement. This new position requires intellectual curiosity and creativity - the successful candidate will be someone who can discover what's important or exciting in a policy brief and express that to a wide audience. S/he will need to be flexible and comfortable with multitasking. Exceptional writing and editing skills are required. Also required: a strong interest in the environment, energy policy and/or green buildings; a Bachelor's degree (or higher), preferably in the liberal arts; and 1-2 years' experience. Familiarity with Expression Engine or WordPress is a plus, as is an interest in infographics. Please submit two writing samples with your resume.

Primary duties

  • Edit & create content for IMT website - announcements, blog posts, program-related pages and other content. Optimize pdfs in document library for SEO
  • Monitor Google Reader for press hits and post these on IMT's website; use social media to promote when appropriate.
  • Maintain up-to-date archive of press clips
  • Maintain IMT image library using stock photo services and Flickr's Creative Commons 
  • Maintain up-to-date press list and newsletter list; draft newsletter items
  • Copy-edit reports, fact sheets, and other materials according to the IMT style guide 

Secondary Duties

  • Assist program staff in creation of infographics as needed
  • Assist with event planning as needed (infrequent)
  • Assist in quality assurance for website (periodically proofread pages, check for broken links, ensure that documents in library are correctly archived, etc.)
  •  Assist with media pitching & writing of press releases as skills develop and responsibilities grow 

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in liberal arts, journalism, communications, political science, or related field
  • 1-2 years of work experience
  • Excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with Expression Engine or WordPress is a plus, as is an interest in infographics
  • Strong interest in the environment, energy policy, and/or green buildings

Finance Policy Internship

We are looking for a part time yearly paid intern to work on projects involving residential and/or commercial real estate finance issues. The work involves research and  analysis on financing energy improvements in these developments such as current financing options, potential barriers, market opportunities, innovative pilots, etc. Good research, financial analysis, statistical and web skills are a must. A graduate business or economics student or advanced undergraduate would be preferred.

  • Conduct administrative tasks such as taking meeting minutes, compiling expenses and drafting summary reports
  • Schedule and program meetings, calls and speaking engagements

Preferred education, experience and skills

  • Undergraduate or graduate work in political science, economics, finance, business, architecture, engineering or related field preferred
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
