As IMT's Energy Codes Specialist, Kim is responsible for developing and implementing IMT's vision and solidifying IMT as a leader related to building energy codes. She does this through overseeing projects, managing key partner relationships, and directly supporting local governments to maximize savings through adoption of and compliance with code.
Most recently, Kim was Senior Sustainability Associate for CORE Engineers Consulting Group, working on energy and green code compliance. She completed technical plan reviews and supported clients through code interpretation and analysis, development of equivalencies, and alternative methods of compliance to assist in meeting project design and ownership goals. Through a grant, Kim worked as part of a team to develop education programs on recycling as well as energy and water reduction in multifamily housing.
Prior to that, Kim was instrumental in the formation of the District of Columbia's Green Building Division in the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. Kim developed programs to support and enforce compliance with DC's green and energy codes by managing public education, development of tools including writing the District’s first Green Building Program Manual, and interpretation and code development. She advised DCRA staff on ICC development for 2015 Green and Energy Codes including representation at ICC Hearings, research of proposed changes, and creation of a voting guide to reflect the goals of DC sustainability initiatives in code development.
Kim holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Maryland, along with a Master of Architecture, Master of Urban Design, and Master of Social Work from Washington University in Saint Louis. Kim is a LEED AP BD+C, a WELL AP, and holds ICC certifications in Residential Energy Inspection/Plan Review, Commercial Energy Inspection/Plan Review, and Green Construction Inspection/Plan Review.
